Remember Where You Came From #2

A reflection on using the past as an accurate reference point to maintain perspective, prevent distortion, and guide present decisions.

Memory functioning as grounded awareness rather than haunting.
A calm grounded interior containing subtle traces of earlier difficulty embedded gently into the environment, symbolizing honest memory, orientation, and awareness of past consequences without becoming trapped in them.

Memory functioning as grounded awareness rather than haunting.

Remembering where I came from keeps my direction honest and clear.

Over time, I see how easy it is to soften my history. The past can begin to seem less difficult than it actually was.

That subtle distortion matters because it changes how I see where I am now and what I need to do.

In recovery, returning honestly to where I started helps me stay connected to why I am here and the direction I am trying to move.

This is not about living in the past or turning against myself. It is about using memory as awareness and protection.

If I forget the cost of where I was, I risk forgetting the cost of going back. There is no shortcut. The price is always there, whether I acknowledge it or not.

Keeping an honest relationship with my own history helps keep me grounded. Remembering where I came from allows me to stay aware of the reality behind my decisions and avoid drifting backward.
